On Thursday the 11th I was going to have a nice tea-party with a few friends of mine, but one of them had to take their car into the shop and couldn't make it. So it was rescheduled and I got to hitch a ride with my parents to the Macworld Expo in the City.
Of course we had to take the ferry, one of my favorite things about the bay. It was blustery outside on the deck, so I stayed inside with Mom and listened to some French ferry-goers who were sitting in front of us. Next we walked up Market a ways and Mom wanted to show me the inside of the Hyatt hotel...and wow...if you haven't seen it, it's really a sight to see next time you walk by. But go past the lobby thing...get into that huge atrium place! It was a location in the movie "High Anxiety," which I haven't seen.
Next we took a cab to the Moscone center (or one of them...I think North). Then we crossed the street to the other Moscone center and walked around for a few hours, checking out different softwares and things. I picked up a trial version of Toon Boom, an animation software. It's okay, but I've been having problems with it on my mac. Anyway, after touring that Moscone center, we crossed the street again (this time underneath it) and walked around the other building some more. The most interesting thing I saw that day, I have to admit, was a live DJ using some kind of dj-ing software they were selling. It was really interesting to see him do it--I don't have a clue how it works, but it sounded cool! So I stared at him for about half an hour and soon after we were off.
We decided to have Thai food at a restaurant that's all purple, inside and out. Pretty good food! I never, NEVER know what to get at restaurants, so I'm always picking something at the last second that I know is "safe." So I picked pad thai the only Thai food I've ever ordered. It was good, but I actually liked my mom's soupy-noodly-coconut milk-and-lemony-mushroomy thing better. So next time I'll ask for the soupy-noodly-coconut milk-and-lemony-mushroomy thing. They'll know what I mean.
After a good, filling meal we walked back to the Embarcadero building. Our ferry was leaving at that moment, so we rushed to get on. It was so packed that only Mom found a seat. I sat on a big, carpeted ledge at the front and Dad wandered. Looking back, it would have been nice to just hang out in the Embarcadero building for the extra 20 minutes instead of rushing on. Well we settled in and one relaxing ferry ride later we got to the car and drove home, stopping for dessert on the way of course.
The picture of my MacWorld badge had to be taken carefully--it was taken with my iMac's built-in camera thing, but the problem is that it reverses every image, so any picture of text is no good. To solve this, I sat in front of the mirror in my room, held the badge facing the mirror, then took a picture of the reversed image of the badge! Voila. Double negative. See how the screen's all white? That's the iMac's flash! The whole screen flashes white, just like a real camera flash. Pretty clever, huh?
Edit: By "Embarcadero Building" I meant the ferry building...in case that was confusing...
